This wasn't something I was planning on making as I only wanted one to sit on the deck of my boat, but after buying what was claimed as an authentic looking wooden barrel, it turned out to be a wooden barrel, but void of any real detail.
So as I should have done in the first place, I set about making one myself, using the water butt barrel in the garden as an example. Making it was not that time consuming, as turning a piece of wood to a barrel shape is not that hard, but the tricky bit came when trying to score the sides to look plank like, then adding the styrene straps round the side to look like metal bands.
As always these things look much better when moulded and cast, as the different materials and colours blend into one giving you a finished item. Once again painting finishes these bits off, and now it sits on my boat as cargo.
I can also supply these without the open end, contact me for details.
This part is for sale in resin.
